Welcome to the Litchfield Patriots, Inc. website!

Founded in 2017 to honor and preserve the memory of residents of Litchfield who made noteworthy contributions to American heritage!  The header images are of our most recent project to repair, relocate, and restore this important monument.  After sitting on Litchfield's East Green for one hundred and fifteen years, the Beecher Memorial that depicts Henry Ward Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe needed our help.  The restoration was made possible thanks to a grant from the Seheer-Thoss Foundations of Litchfield, with additional funding from the Borough of Litchfield Warden and Burgesses, the Litchfield County University Club, and the Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust.  The rededication and reception were held at the First Congregational Church of Litchfield on December 15, 2024,

The Litchfield Patriots project for America's 250th is to document, clean, and as needed repair or replace the gravestones of Revolutionary War patriots in area cemeteries.  If you would like to learn more simply contact us.    Your group can also raise funds to "adopt a patriot"!   Do you have a Revolutionary War ancestor buried in Litchfield?  Here is a link to some find-a grave lists managed by President Eileen Porter-Schmidt.   Help us to make sure their gravesites are properly marked.   Tours will be available in 2026!

This committee of the Litchfield Patriots is convening area groups to plan and coordinate events that will celebrate the Semiquincentennial (250th Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence) in 2026!

Andrew Adams, a Founding Father

Due to age, the inscription on the "table stone" for the Hon. Andrew Adams, Esq. was no longer legible. In 2020, the Litchfield Patriots raised funds and secured a grant from the Scherr-Thoss Foundations of Litchfield for a new stone. Adams was a Connecticut Delegate to 2nd Continental Congress, Signer of the United States Articles of Confederation, a Revolutionary War Colonel in the Connecticut Militia, Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, a Member of St. Paul's Masonic Lodge No. II , and Deacon of Litchfield Congregational Church.  The rededication was held on June 27, 2020.

Litchfield's 300th Anniversary

On the 7th of September in 2019, the Litchfield Patriots coordinated a wonderful living history day on the town green with reenactors and horses and fun!  These historic 8 x 10 booklets were published for that event and are packed with information about Litchfield's 300 year history. Some are still available for $10. Contact Us to arrange for payment and delivery / postage.
