Cemetery Project

The Litchfield Patriots project for 2026 is to document, clean, and as needed repair or replace the gravestones of Revolutionary War patriots in area cemeteries.  If you would like to learn more simply contact us.    Your group can also raise funds to "adopt a patriot"!   Do you have a Revolutionary War ancestor buried in Litchfield?  Help us to make sure their gravesites are properly marked.   Tours will be available in 2026!

Beecher Memorial Restoration

After sitting on Litchfield's East Green for One hundred and sixteen years, the Beecher Memorial showed significant deterioration in addition to the damage from sitting directly under a tree and dangerously close to the road. This America 250 project aims to move it north-east of its present location while keeping it within the footprint of the second meetinghouse where Lyman Beecher preached, After reconstruction using the same native stone, the medallion and plaque will be reinstalled with cleaned surfaces.
The Beecher Memorial depicts Henry Ward Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Andrew Adams, a Founding Father

Due to age, the inscription on Andrew Adams' "table stone" headstone was no longer legible.  We were able to take advantage of donations and a grant from the Scherr-Thoss foundation to purchase a new stone. for the Hon. Andrew Adams, Esq.  He was a Connecticut Delegate to 2nd Continental Congress, Signer of the United States Articles of Confederation, a Revolutionary War Colonel in the Connecticut Militia, Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, a Member of St. Paul's Masonic Lodge No. II , and Deacon of Litchfield Congregational Church
